William Eggleston was born on July 27, 1939 in Memphis, Tennessee. He grew up on his families former cotton plantation. Eggleston attended boarding school as a teenager and later went to Vanderbilt University. His fascination with mechanics and friends who spotted his artistic ability, encouraged him to buy a camera.
After settling down in 1964, William began to experiment with color photography. Instead of doing commercial photography, he set to capture the daily things around him. Over the next decade, he took thousands of photographs of ordinary people.
In 1974, Eggleston had an opportunity for his work to be in the Museum of modern Art. Located in New York City. He had many commission projects. Two of them were in Jimmy Carters hometown of plains, and Elvis Presley's Graceland Mansion in Memphis.
